Eligibility: Based on income. Generally at or below 125% of federal poverty levels. A person may also qualify based on age or the nature of their legal problem, regardless of income. Case needs to involve the state of Utah.
Services Provided: Statewide representation in civil (non-criminal) legal matters for low-income persons, victims of domestic violence, Senior Citizens, Farm workers and Native Americans.
Legal matters include:
• Representation in protective order actions and domestic relations matters for victims of domestic violence (except in Salt Lake County, see Legal Aid Society 801-328-8849)
• Representation of clients with landlord/tenant and/or housing disputes. (Utah Renters Handbook accessed at http://www.utahlegalservices.org/public/flyers)
• Representation in cases seeking access to health care such as Medicaid, PCN and CHIP
• Representation in cases seeking public entitlements such as TANF/GA, Social Security, SSI and Unemployment benefits
• Representation in American Indian issues
• Representation of migrant farm workers regarding wage and labor issues
• Representation in consumer and collection issues
